Stubborn German Brewing

Rebranding Project

For my final project as a student at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, I was tasked with rebranding a consumer good. As a Certified Beer Server and, of course, beer lover, I chose to rebrand Stubborn German Brewing. Stubborn German is in Waterloo, IL; my grandparents lived in Waterloo for over 20 years so this location holds a special place in my heart. With their tasty brews and quaint location, I saw room for improvement in their branding to grow their potential and reach.

Original Branding

Current room for improvements include some technical errors, outdated typefaces and styles, and room for more illustrations. The brand website can be more user-friendly and bold to gain more interest in their brewery.

New Can Designs

I learned a lot about what makes beer cans stand out on shelves after working at a bottle shop. Bright colors and funky illustrations are key to getting a passerby to pick up a can of your beer. The can designs use branded colors to denote a type of beer, while the illustrations hark back to German lore and style.

New Website

When you see the new Stubborn German site, you can’t help but be hoppy. The interactive elements are engaging, but keep the older audience in mind with its usability and ease of navigation. The website was created with Figma.
